As expected, it was an entertaining chat between Matthew McConaughey and Howard Stern. The two discussed several different topics, including what it was like growing up for the actor, and the problems he would experience alongside his mom. The issues would lead to eight years without talking to one another.
We'll take a closer look at what went down in that instance, while also putting the spotlight on how Matthew McConaughey's dad predicted his own death. Howard Stern was blown away by the story, while the actor shared what exactly took place. It was a surreal situation and one that got quite the reaction out of Stern.
Let's take a look at what went down and so much more.
RelatedThere truly is never a dull moment on The Howard Stern Show. That's also aided by the fact that Stern has some great guests, like Matthew McConaughey. During this particular chat, Stern was blown away on how Matthew's father called his death prior to it taking place.
McConaughey said during the interview, "He said boys, when I go, I'm going to be making love to your mother... He called his shot. 6:30 AM on a Monday morning." Stern replies, "Don't you think there's something cosmic about? He knew how he was going to die and he actually did it."
McConaughey also revealed that his mom told the paramedics to take the sheet off of him, so the neighbors could see just how "big" he was... Quite the story and one Howard Stern clearly had a blast with.
RelatedNot only did fans love the story, but they also appreciated Stern's reaction.
"Howard always has to try to insert himself even when he’s asking them about a story he can’t help but keep talking and adding to something he knows nothing about," a fan wrote.
Another fan wrote, "6:30am on a Monday morning. That’s how you know they had a great relationship."
A great interview reveal. However, things were a little different when Matthew discussed stories related to his mother.
For eight years, Matthew and his mom did not speak. A turning point in their relationship took place after the actor realized his mom had been leaking information to the press.
McConaughey revealed, “I would have conversations and then all of a sudden—whoop—what we’d talk about would end up in the paper three days later,” he said. “I was like, ‘Mom, that was between us!’”
The actor reached his tipping point after he was scrolling through channels, only to find a camera crew in his childhood room. His mom mentioned she never thought he'd see the footage. Ultimately, Matthew put the situation behind him.
“I’ve forgiven her. It wasn’t her fault. I just had to make some boundaries,” he said. “It was tough for eight years, but we went through it and we’re on the other side of it. It’s good.”
RelatedThe two have a better relationship today, and McConaughey revealed that his father taught him some important lessons growing up.
Matthew McConaughey learned some strong lessons from his dad, and one of them was about consent. Speaking alongside People, McConaughey revealed his dad was right to bring up the conversation.
"[My father is] talking to me as his son, as a male in this situation and speaking to me about a heterosexual relationship. He says, 'If you ever feel the girl the female hesitate, stop.' "
"He even said this: 'You may even feel them hesitate and then after you stop, then they go, 'Oh no, no, c'mon,' Don't. Wait until next time,'" McConaughey said.
"And he was right. I got in circumstances where I was like, 'Nah nah nah, okay, I'm out' and then saying, 'Okay, cool, I'm out.' The girl went, 'Oh, well, no c'mon,' and I was like, 'No, no, no,' " the actor added. "And he said, 'Trust you'll have another day if it's to be.'"
The actor added that his instincts have definitely changed since becoming a father.
“When you become a parent, your peripheral vision becomes better, whereas before you're a parent, you can have tunnel vision," he shares. "You can take one-trip tickets to anywhere you want to go. No more one-trip tickets when you become a parent," he continues. "It’s round-trip tickets because you know you have to get back and you’ve got dependents."
McConaughey continues to learn all these years later.
